A Letter from Co-Director Matt Kearns

Dear Parents and Players,

I am BEYOND excited to introduce myself as one of the new directors for BTown Volleyball Club here in Bloomington! It is a privilege to work with such a vibrant and talented group of young athletes and coaches. I am looking forward to an exciting journey ahead!
​
A little about my background: I have been a lead club coach at a top 20 club in the country for over seven years and started coaching at the college level at the age of 18. I have coached at a top 100 mid-major program for six years and became the youngest head coach in Division 1 volleyball in 2023. I am thrilled to now be part of IU’s coaching staff and can’t wait to help the team reach new heights in the Big Ten.

My philosophy as a coach prioritizes our athletes as people first and volleyball players second. I firmly believe that the best way to help our athletes excel is to get to know them deeply and authentically. Therefore, I will encourage our staff to develop meaningful relationships with each player, understanding their unique strengths, challenges, and aspirations.
​
Our goal is to extract the full potential out of every athlete in our club. There is immense satisfaction in achieving things you never thought possible for yourself, but it requires hard work and commitment. It means being willing to step out of your comfort zone, push through difficult moments, and remain dedicated to your growth. Through this process, our athletes will leave the club not only as better volleyball players but also as better individuals.

We are committed to instilling core values of compassion, respect, and competitive spirit in our athletes. These values will guide us in creating an environment where everyone can thrive, both on and off the court.
I am excited to bring my experience and passion for the game to our club, and I am committed to helping each of our athletes achieve their fullest potential. Together, we will create a supportive and challenging environment that fosters growth, excellence, and a love for volleyball.
